CIC’s student researchers investigate issues relating to parental incarceration, produce reports, and help guide the direction of CIC. Students gain valuable experience in research, interviewing, and writing, while learning more about  criminal legal systems, relevant policies, and international human rights, while gaining tools to advocate for change. UCI & MJF Fellows

The Minnesota Justice Foundation (MJF) Law School Public Service Program and the University of California, Irvine (UCI) have robust pro bono programs that pair law students with public interest organizations. Our MFJ and UCI fellows explore laws and community programs that support alternatives to parental incarceration in the U.S. These reports are then used to raise awareness of best practices and the creation of more effective alternatives to incarceration for parents, when it is in their children’s best interest.

Human Rights Fellows

CIC partners with the University of Minnesota Law School’s Human Rights Center and works with law students throughout the country to provide real-world experience to those interested in human rights advocacy. Students conduct research and assist with drafting reports that highlight human rights issues related to the lack of due process and access to healthcare afforded to pregnant women and children living in prisons with incarcerated parents worldwide. These reports are shared with United Nations treaty bodies and other global partners to raise awareness of human rights violations and create meaningful change.
